i did a little decorating for christmas here at the "condo," which i have renamed the "igloo," by the way. it never gets above 60 degrees in here, so our tree still has all of its needles and probably still thinks that it's outside in the frigid mountain air. i'll be sad to take it down next week.
in my family my great-grandma has knit stockings for each of us. she passed away this year, and so my grandma joan took up the tradition and knit a stocking for alex. now he's officially part of the family.

oh christmas tree!
it has been a long-time tradition in my family to go to our cabin the day after thanksgiving and cut down a fresh christmas tree, so alex and i kept the tradition going this year...
proud alex. we forgot a saw, so he cut it down with an axe and didn't mind the opportunity to practice his "lumberjack skills."

look what was waiting for me when i got home from work today! thanks baby.
i really needed these flowers today, because i was devastated that some bitch stole two packages from my porch while i was away. maybe it was the post-woman delivering them that got a little jealous, or maybe it was some skank walking home from a drug deal down the street. who knows. but one was from anthropologie, and to make a long story short...i am stuck with a $90 store credit, when all i wanted was my credit back to my credit card. the other package was the real loss. i found this dress at shabbyapple and have been dreaming of it for months. finally i saved up enough to buy it, but it also went on sale the day i ordered...which you'd think would be a good thing, but it wasn't because the one in the mail was the LAST one left. though shabby apple is happy to give my money back, i don't want it back. i want my dream dress! geez.
i realize that i am being completely dramatic, and there are definitely worse things that can happen in life. i'd also like to clarify that alex did not get me flowers to cheer me over my loss. he thinks i'll get over this one alone. he just happened to get me flowers that day to be nice. and now i'm enjoying the way they make our house smell. thanks love. that's all for now....

DC
Alex had a med school interview at George Washington University yesterday, so we went a few days early and turned it into a long weekend vacation too! Here's Alex on campus:
Arlington Cemetery
Captiol Building
Lincoln Monument

Obviously we did a lot of walking, and often got quite dehydrated. While we were shopping at Whole Foods Alex's need for water became so strong that he actually drank water from a cup that had been abandoned in the deli/restaurant area. That's right, as you can see in the picture above, Alex the germ freak drank someone else's drink. Thus, he saved $1.15 by not buying a sterile bottle of water from the grocery store in which we were currently shopping. I really don't understand his frugal ways sometimes.
it rained pretty much the whole time we were there. while waiting to eat at Old Ebbitt's we sat in an alcove to get a little shelter. here's a picture of alex reading the 'onion' to pass the time, but the real reason i took the picture was because of the number of asian tourists riding Segways behind him.
last but not least... reagan airport. i love the architecture.

I have caved
I have never really seen myself having a blog. It takes up time that I could use elsewhere, and just because I am married now, that doesn't mean I automatically need to start a blog. You might say I've been adamantly opposed. So I didn't start one when we got married; I lasted 6 whole months. I blame Erika mostly, because she convinced me it takes no time at all to blog, so I decided "why not." But, I'll tell you why not. I am supposed to be at church in an hour, haven't even read the lesson I am teaching, or showered, ironed an outfit, or even eaten breakfast or lunch. The house is a mess, I haven't unpacked from our weekend at the cabin, or even put in my contacts yet today. There is no food in the house, so I should at least be running around the corner to buy bananas. But am I working on any of those tasks? No. Because I have been sucked in to my own damn blog. And of course, looking at others' also. Geez.....
